Vacuum pump can be categorized according to three techniques
1. Positive Displacement Pumps
Use a mechanism to repeatedly expend a cavity , allow gases to flow in form the chamber, seal off cavity and exhaust it to the atmosphere.
2. Momentum Transfer Pumps
Use a high speed jets of dense fluid or high speed rotating blades to knock gas molecules out of the chamber.
3. Entrapment Pumps
Used capture gases in a solid or adsorbed state
